A last minute cancellation almost cancelled the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree campaign in Harrisonburg.  These Christmas Angels collect gifts for the needy to make sure that every child in the area has a Christmas present under their tree.  The plan was to use an old Food Lion as a drop-off and distribution point.  That location was unavailable though.  Thanks to some last minute help a new warehouse on Country Club Road was found.

The Angel Tree campaign is a huge effort according to a recent article:

Some 2,000 volunteers – from collectors and wrappers, to contributors of gifts and local Angel Tree coordinators – are helping with this year’s effort, according to the Salvation Army of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County.

“We thought everything had been planned well in advance, then suddenly we needed a plan B,” said Salvation Army official Christal Yowell.

The new location should allow the gift giving to go off without a hitch.  More people are requiring the assistance of Angels this year as the economy is hitting everyone.  Is your area having a gift giving drive similar to the Angel Tree campaign?
